The biggest benefit to using these ride share services is convenience. You will meet your private car at a designated location at the airport, and it will drop you off right in front of the cruise terminal. No matter which transportation option you choose, it’s important to consider factors such as cost, convenience, and travel time. Additionally, it’s advisable to check the specific requirements and recommendations provided by your cruise line to ensure a smooth embarkation process. The cruise lines offer service between the Fort Lauderdale airport and the Port of Miami. The bad news is that they can be pricey and not very flexible (you’re on their schedule, not vice versa).

If you’re flying in for your cruise, or simply don’t want to worry with the hassle and expense of parking, then there are plenty of transportation options to get to the cruise terminal. If you are traveling with a larger party, you might want to reserve a private shuttle.

Port of Miami Cruise Parking (Where to Park): Prices, Profiles, & Map
Drivers will help with luggage so you can sit back and enjoy the ride. The journey takes at least 35 minutes, depending on traffic, and the cost will be $70-75 total. Taxis are plentiful at Fort Lauderdale Airport and they are one of the easiest and most convenient options. Taxis are located kerbside and Ground Transportation is clearly signed from Arrivals. It’s a good choice for older cruisers and those with young children who don’t want to hang around waiting for a bus or shuttle. You need to upload the app and register a credit card before booking your ride.
Baltimore Port Eyes April Reopening, Cruise Departures Uncertain
Given the distance from Fort Lauderdale to Miami and vice versa, it can cost a decent amount to get from one city to the other, negating any savings on airfare. The good news is that having two airports means there are many options based on the airline or flight time you need. In addition, prices are generally affordable since competition between airlines is fierce. Miami Port Shuttle also provides affordable cruise terminal transportation to/from Miami Airport, Fort Lauderdale Airport, Port of Miami and Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale.

The Miami International Airport (MIA) is conveniently located just 27 miles south of the Port Everglades Cruise Port in Fort Lauderdale. With a variety of transportation options to choose from, you can easily make your way from the airport to the cruise port and start your journey in style. Obviously the most convenient way to get to a cruise from the Port of Miami is to fly into Miami International Airport. The airport is located only about minutes from the cruise ships (depending on traffic).
The journey typically takes around minutes, depending on traffic conditions. If you like the convenience of driving, you can easily rent a car from Fort Lauderdale Airport and drop it off near the cruise port. You will incur a one-way fee but it does put you in the driving seat, so to speak. Several buses run regularly from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Miami including Greyhound. Expect to pay around $21 per person for an air-conditioned transfer door-to-door from Fort Lauderdale to Miami Port.
There are also a number of Miami hotels near the Coral Way trolley, a transit route offering free transportation to the port. An Uber/Lyft fare from the Miami airport to the Port of Miami would run approximately $20-$25, compared to $30-$35 for a taxi. If flying into Fort Lauderdale, the fare is around $55-$60 to the Miami cruise port, compared to roughly $85-$100 for a taxi.
When reserving one of these private services, be sure to get a price quote that includes all tolls, airport fees and charges, and gratuities. Some companies will quote a very low price but then tack on all of these additional costs once you arrive. If you have issues with a reservation or a problem getting to the port, you will have to deal directly with the shuttle service. This is especially true if you arrive late and are worried about getting to the ship on time.
So a couple or small group traveling together pays the same rate. Similarly, taxis are available from Fort Lauderdale for around $75 each way. If for some reason you aren’t able to find a rideshare driver using the app, a taxi is always a backup. There are several reputable companies from which you can reserve a private vehicle that will pick you up at the airport.
In addition to the cruise line shuttles, there are independent shuttles that can get you to and from the port. For more details about these hotels, we’ve linked to them on Kayak. If a package is required, you might have to book directly with the hotel.
While this will be the most expensive transportation option, this will be a private accommodation and a more upscale vehicle. While not the cheapest option, the pro of booking a cruise line transfer is that you are guaranteed you will not miss the ship. While many Florida locals do drive to the port, most cruisers fly here to embark on their cruise vacations. The cost of an Uber or Lyft is estimated at $55-$60 each way, for up to four people (pricing is based per car, not per person). Flagler St and from there you will need to take a taxi or walk the final 2 miles.

Note that we don’t recommend or suggest against any particular company as we haven’t used them personally. We compare the different options and discover which ones are the cheapest, the easiest, the fastest and the most reliable. Most major airlines serve Miami International, making it convenient to fly to from just about anywhere in the country and the world.
So, we would only recommend this option if you need to save money on your trip or you are very comfortable with public transportation. Though, we always recommend cruisers fly the day before to avoid any potential travel delays. We suggest considering a pre-cruise hotel stay before your cruise. If you are flying into the Fort Lauderdale airport, we would recommend securing a hotel in Miami so you are closer to the cruise port in the morning. Given the distance from the airport to the cruise terminal, be sure to plan your flights appropriately if you plan to fly in the day of your cruise.
